Fat Toad Farm is a small, family owned and operated goat dairy in Vermont specializing in hand-crafted goat’s milk caramel sauces. Made in small batches with fresh milk from our own herd of pastured dairy goats, Fat Toad Farm’s Goat’s Milk Caramel is meticulously hand-stirred to velvety perfection over the course of five hours in bright copper kettles. Rich and creamy, their not-too-sweet caramel sauces deliver the unmistakably tangy depth of your favorite chèvre, balanced with the simplicity of fresh milk and pure cane sugar.
In the true spirit of farmsteading, Fat Toad Farm exclusively uses milk from its own goats, and personally shepherds each case of caramel from grass, to goat, to production kitchen, to jar, and into your mouth. Husband and wife team Steve Reid and Judith Irving created Fat Toad Farm with their daughter Calley Hastings, following an old-fashioned business model based on close family ties, their food, their animals, their land and their local community.
Fat Toad Farm is one of the only producers of farmstead goat’s milk caramel in the United States. Their caramel sauces are sold in over 300 small specialty food stores around the country and in Whole Foods Markets in the North Atlantic and Midwest Regions.

You will meet our herd of beautiful (and mischievous) Alpine dairy goats and learn all about their life here on the farm; from breeding season to their favorite type of hay, it'll all be covered! In our milking parlor, you'll see where we milk the goats and how we keep track of the milk production. Then we'll visit the caramel production room and you'll learn how we make our unique and delicious farmstead goat's milk caramel. We'll finish up the tour at our caramel sampling room and farm store where you can taste some of our newest flavors and take advantage of special 'farm store only' deals.
Most tours take 45-60 minutes. All tours are limited to a small group so there's plenty of time for questions and enjoying the farm environment.
