About the Co-op PDF Print E-mail

The Floating Bridge Food and Farms Cooperative is made up of a group of farm, food and lodging businesses owned by families who are dedicated to locally grown food and sustainable agriculture. The co-op is working to build a strong community of like-minded businesses within the areas of Brookfield, Randolph Center and Northfield, Vermont.

The co-op's logo also bears the mark of community. A contribution by the artist, the logo was created by Ed Koren, a well-known cartoonist for The New Yorker magazine, who is a local firefighter and resident of Brookfield Village.

The Floating Bridge Food and Farms Cooperative’s mission is threefold, to:

  1. Develop a collective of agricultural businesses as a model of local sustainability;
  2. Provide visitors with an authentic experience that deepens their appreciation and understanding of a working agricultural community; and
  3. Provide farm and food-based educational opportunities.

Initial funding for the development of the Cooperative came from the Vermont Housing and Conservation Board’s Farm Viability Enhancement Program, as well as support from the Vermont Farm Women’s Fund through the University of Vermont Extension program.

Co-op members are pleased to provide their communities and area visitors with locally raised meats, vegetables and food products—available at their farms, restaurants and bed and breakfasts, as well as at local farmers markets and food coops.

We encourage you to support these businesses, to experience small-farm living, to enjoy locally raised food bursting with flavor, and to treat yourself, family and friends to the seasonal beauty of Central Vermont’s working landscape.

Special thanks to photographers Calley Hastings, Katrina Landau, Robert Eddy, John Miller and the coop members who provided images for this website.
